Melville Crawford, his parents’ only son, was born in Toronto and became a teller with the Canadian Bank of Commerce after leaving UTS in 1915. He enlisted in May 1918 with the Canadian Engineers and completed his preliminary training before going overseas in September. While in England, he contracted pneumonia and died at the Devonport Military Hospital, less than a month before the end of the war. He is buried in the Plymouth (Efford) Cemetery in England.
